Coventry missed out on Spurs trio

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has revealed that he missed out on deals for three Tottenham youngsters this summer after they moved to the Bundesliga and Scotland respectively.

It was reported last week that 17-year-old Belgian Ismail Azzaoui was set to join Coventry until Bundesliga giants Wolfsburg came in and picked up the winger on a five-year contract.

If Mowbray was already disappointed with not getting one Spurs player, it was made worse when he missed out on two more.

He also had his eyes on left winger Nathan Oduwa and central defender Dominic Ball. However, Coventry lost out yet again as both of them signed for Scottish Championship side Glasgow Rangers on season-long loans.

Mowbray will be especially disappointed at not being able to bring in Oduwa as he was a highly sought after commodity and would have been a great addition to his side. The 19-year-old was also linked with Reading, Brentford and Birmingham before he joined Rangers.

Mowbray revealed this to the Coventry Telegraph

Ismail is a player we really liked. I went to watch him. He’s another frail kid really but, in my opinion, he’s going to be a top player.

I don’t know how on Earth he’s ended up going to Wolfsburg, but Spurs have got lots of young talented boys. There are a couple who have gone to Glasgow Rangers who we would have liked, but the world’s full of footballers and people would be amazed how many players I get information about, hundreds and hundreds and you have to be selective and know what you want your team to do otherwise you could end up taking every player who sounds all right.
