Emmanuel Adebayor’s international career looks in doubt after being criticised by Togo boss Tom Saintfiet.
The striker failed to turn up for international duty this past weekend, and the Sparrow Hawks’ boss has accused him of cherry picking which game he wants to play in.
“For me, it is clear that is (Adebayor) is a player who does not want to play for his country anymore,” Saintfiet said.
“He does not want his country to be qualfied for the next African Cup of nations. He agreed to play against Liberia and not Djibouti. For me, it is not a duty of a player to decide against which opponent he will play.”
Adebayor has had a rocky international career to date, retiring from action in April 2010 before returning 18 months later.
In June, he was late to turn up to camp for their opening African Cup of Nations qualifier against Liberia, and was subsequently benched for the match.
Despite coming on and scoring the winner in that game, Saintfiet suggests that after his latest absence, he could begin to look elsewhere.
“If you are dating a woman who does not respond positively, then you must look for another women,” he said.
Adebayor has been capped 65 times for Togo, scoring 29 goals.
