Tottenham were looking to bounce back from the 1-0 defeat to Leicester in midweek and did so with ease as they beat a poor Sunderland side 4-1 as Sam Alladyce’s side collapsed in the second half.
The first half saw the sides go in level at the break, after Patrick Van Aanholt’s opener was cancelled out by Christian Eriksen’s equalising goal less than two minutes later.

However, the scoreline did not tell the full story of the first half, with Spurs having dominated possession as well as squandering two good opportunities to go ahead, first when Dele Alli lifted his shot over the bar in the 9th minute and the second when Erik Lamela failed to make the most of a Spurs break when he dragged his shot wide of the post.
In the second half, Spurs played much better and were rewarded with a goal as Mousa Dembele put Spurs ahead when he cut in from the right and fired past Jordan Pickford. Christian Eriksen then gave Spurs a two goal cushion as his deflected effort flew past Pickford in the Sunderland goal.
There was still time for Spurs to extend their lead and they did, with Harry Kane firing home a penalty after Danny Rose was brought down in the penalty area.
The result means Spurs win their first game of 2016 and secure their grip on 4th place ahead of the other Premier League fixtures this weekend.
