Wimmer: The pressure is on Manchester City

Tottenham central defender Kevin Wimmer insists that all the pressure is on Manchester City this weekend, as the two title contenders go head to head in Manchester on Sunday.

Wimmer has become a regular in the Spurs team in recent weeks, following Jan Vertonghen’s injury at Crystal Palace last month.

Spurs moved ahead of Manchester City last weekend, thanks to their home win against Watford whilst Manchester City lost at home to league leaders Leicester City, which means Spurs are one point ahead of the blue side of Manchester.

Speaking to the Evening Standard ahead of the game, Wimmer said:

“We’re also one of the best teams in the league [like them] so there is no team we should be worried about because we know what we can do and we’re in a very good mood at the moment.

“They lost against Leicester so they have a little bit of pressure, they know they have to win now. It’s never easy to play away against such big teams but we have a good chance to get the points there as well.

“It’s not that bad that they lost against Leicester. Now they have big pressure, they are behind us, they know they have to win. It’s not going to be easy for them.”

Wimmer also spoke the need for Tottenham to fight for the points, as well as Spurs impressive defensive record so far this season.

Wimmer said:

“It’s a very important game for both teams and it’s going to be a big fight and hopefully we can get points there. We will do everything we can.

“It’s very important for a defender. It’s a very good feeling when you win and don’t concede any goals.”

If Spurs are going to come away from the Etihad with three points on Sunday, it will be the first time they have won at the Etihad since 2010, with the Lilywhites having a very poor record at Manchester City in recent times.
