Match Report: Tottenham 1-2 Dortmund

Spurs crashed out of the Europa League at White Hart Lane, as an Aubameyang inspired Borussia Dortmund won 2-1 (5-1 on aggregate) in North London.

In truth, the damage was already done at the Westfalenstadion last Thursday, when a weakened Spurs team were completely torn apart by a rampant Dortmund side with goals from Reus and Aubameyang sealing a 3-0 victory in Germany for Dortmund.

With Spurs now solely focusing on winning the league title for the first time since 1961, the return leg was nothing more than a formality with Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen on the bench as Mauricio Pochettino once again gave rests to a number of his most important players.

It was to be Aubameyang (who else?), who put Borussia Dortmund in the lead in the first half, when his effort from 25 yards out curled past Lloris and nestled into the back of the Spurs net.

Dortmund would have to wait until the 71st minute to grab their second, as Aubameyang latched onto a through ball from Mkhitaryan and slotted past Hugo Lloris.

However, Spurs to their credit kept going and were rewarded with a goal, after Son latched onto a weak back pass from Subotic, before rounding Weidenfeller and firing the ball home.

There was also bad news on the injury front, after Ben Davies was substituted minutes after being knocked out by Lloris as they both attempted to clear a cross from Marco Reus.

Despite the ultimately disappointing performances against Dortmund, it now means that Spurs can concentrate fully on securing their first league title since 1961, starting with the game against Bournemouth at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
