Harry Kane’s second half goal was enough to salvage a point for Spurs on Merseyside, as Pochettino’s side dropped two points in their quest for the Premier League title.
Spurs, who went into the game five points behind Leicester, who play tomorrow, knew a win would put pressure on the Premier League leaders but were left hanging on for a draw at some points during the second half with a number of Spurs players underperforming.
However, it was Spurs who had the better opportunities to take the lead during the first half, with Harry Kane failing to make the most of either of his two chances. His first chance saw him not take his shot quick enough, allowing the Liverpool defenders to get back into position, whilst his second chance saw him attempt to take a shot on goal instead of playing Dele Alli through on goal.

In the second half, Liverpool took control and seized control of the midfield battle, with Alli, Dembele and Dier enduring unusually poor days. Liverpool eventually took the lead when Phillipe Coutinho fired past a stranded Lloris after losing Dier and driving at the massive gap at the heart of the defence with Alderweireld and Wimmer at sixes and sevens.
Spurs would enjoy perhaps their best spell of the game after Coutinho’s opener, with Kane wrongfooting Dejan Lovren and firing past Simon Mignolet 12 minutes after Liverpool took the lead.
With the game now level, it was Liverpool who would pile on the pressure in the closing stages, but Spurs defence just about held firm, despite Kyle Walker having one of the worst days of his Spurs career.
The result leaves Spurs four points behind Leicester, but Pochettino’s side have played one more game than the league leaders.
