Spurs sign Davinson Sanchez from Ajax

Tottenham Hotspur have signed Colombian defender Davinson Sanchez from Dutch side Ajax for a club-record fee of £40m.

The 21 year old Colombia international has signed a six-year deal with Spurs until 2023.

The defender moved to Ajax from Atletico Nacional June 2016 and made 47 appearances for them, scoring 7 goals during his time in Holland.

In his first interview as a Tottenham player, he said: “I would like to thank the coach, management, players and fans of Ajax. It is a great move for me to come here to develop my career.”

The signing of Sanchez marks Tottenham’s first summer signing, and Manager Mauricio Pochettino said in his press conference today that he still wants to sign up to four more players.

The player still needs to complete a medical and gain a UK work permit before he can play for Spurs, so it is unlikely that he will feature in Tottenham’s first home game of the season against Chelsea on Sunday.
