Lucas Bergvall has asked to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer while away with Sweden at the World Cup, according to a fresh update from Sky Sports.
The 20-year-old midfielder is understood to have made Tottenham aware that he wants a fresh start after concerns over regular first-team football. Sky reports that Bergvall played only 112 minutes under Roberto De Zerbi after the Italian took charge for the final six games of last season.
The timing is awkward for Spurs because Bergvall is currently with Sweden at the World Cup, while Tottenham are already trying to reshape De Zerbi’s squad after narrowly avoiding relegation from the Premier League.
Bergvall decision adds another Tottenham transfer issue
Bergvall joined Spurs from Djurgarden in the 2024 winter window and remains tied to the club until June 2031, so Tottenham still hold a strong contractual position.
That does not remove the immediate problem. A young midfielder who once looked central to the club’s long-term planning is now seeking clarity at the same time De Zerbi is targeting major midfield reinforcements.
For supporters, the key question is whether Tottenham can offer Bergvall a convincing route back into the side or whether this becomes another summer exit conversation alongside the wider rebuild. Either way, his request has turned a quiet squad-management issue into a live transfer story.
